Fire Prevention & Permits

The goal of the Fire Inspection Division is to prevent fire deaths, injuries and reduce fire. Types of inspections offered are: new construction plan reviews, 80% inspections, 100% inspections, business license inspections, annual fire safety inspections of existing businesses, certificate of occupancy certifications, re-inspections, sprinkler system inspection and pre-fire plan inspections.

BUILDING CONSTRUCTION AND INTERIOR FINISH


1. Commercial plans may be submitted to the Community Development Department Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Residential plans may also be submitted Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

2. The City of Alpharetta offers all applicants the option of requesting a pre-submittal meeting to familiarize the applicant with the City's procedures and provide the applicant an opportunity to ask questions of our Plans Examiners. Appointments must be scheduled in advance and can be made by calling 678-297-6080.

Fire protection and fire alarm plans and permits
Fire protection and fire alarm plans are only accepted electronically through ePlans Solutions, www.eplansolution.com.
Sprinkler work that involves less than 10 heads does not require a permit.
A scope of work letter is required before work begins.
All sprinkler work requires a certification letter on completion.

Fire Alarm Permit is not required for 5 devices or less.

Permit fees are as follows:

Sprinkler systems $.50 a head or minimum of $50.00
Fire protection systems $50.00
Hydrant flow test $75.00
Blasting permit $100.00
Temporary tents $100.00
Vehicle displays in a structure $100.00
 



Inspection Checklists

Inspection request for new construction can be called into the Fire Marshal's office between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, at 678-297-6272. All new construction requires an 80% and 100% inspection. Please see checklist for type of inspection.


80% INSPECTION CHECK LIST

- Proper labels affixed (8’-10’ apart)  
Through Floor/Ceiling Penetrations
- Sealed with an approved fire assembly
- Fire collars correct size and secured

HVAC Ductwork/Fire Dampers
- Metal piping 5’ each side of 1hr. fire wall only
- Fire dampers installed and angles in place
Sprinkler System
Head spacing & location
Knox Equipment (if applicable)
- Key box ordered
Gate entry switched ordered
- FDC plugs ordered


Kitchen Facilities w/Hood System
- Duct welds and clean-outs inspected
- Clearance from combustibles
- Wrapped with fire proofing/insulation
