ALPHARETTA OFFERS DAY CAMP FOR CHILDREN WITH MILD DISABILITIES

Camp Happy Hearts, a summer day camp for children ages 6 – 12 with mild disabilities, will begin its 15th season on June 3 in Alpharetta.  The City of Alpharetta Recreation and Parks Department is taking registration now for returning campers.  Those interested in participating for the first time should call 678-297-6154 or email cyoung@alpharetta.ga.us to schedule an interview or for information.

Camp Happy Hearts participants enjoy swimming, field trips, guest entertainers, arts and crafts, sports, and games in a fun and nurturing environment.  The camp is based at The Lionheart School adjacent to the Alpharetta Community Center.

The camp offers 8 one-week sessions through August 2nd (excluding the week of July 4th).  Hours of camp are Monday-Friday 7:30am-5:30pm with structured activities 9:00am-4:00pm (pre-camp 7:30am-9:00am and post-camp 4:00pm-5:30pm).

The City of Milton’s Recreation and Parks Department offers a similar program, Camp Joyful Soles, for children ages 13 – 18.  Also created for children with mild disabilities, the camp is a companion to Camp Happy Hearts.  There will be 7 one-week sessions from June 3 to July 26 (except the week of July 4th).  Camp Joyful Soles is held from 8:30am to 4:30pm.  For additional information on Camp Joyful Soles, please contact the City of Milton at 678-242-2519.

Cost for participation in Camp Happy Hearts or Camp Joyful Soles is $125 weekly per participant for residents of the City of Alpharetta and the City of Milton.  Residents of other communities pay a weekly cost of $187.50 per participant.

Funding for Camp Happy Hearts is provided in part through a grant provided by the Fulton County Commission under guidance of the Fulton County Department of Housing and Human Services.
