VOLUNTEERISM


VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES exist in and around Alpharetta for citizens to contribute their time and talents to make Alpharetta a better place in which to live and work. The following are some of the organizations that need dedicated volunteers on an on-going basis, whether it be an hour a week or much more.

Keep Alpharetta Beautiful - Staff the resource center, adopt-a-mile cleanup of streets and highways. Recycling, public speaking, grant proposal writing, developing exhibits and more. Alpharetta Historical Society - Staff the Mansell House and provide information to guests and visitors. 770-475-4663.

Alpharetta Junior Women's Club - For women from 21-55 to volunteer for the arts, conservation, education, home life, international and public affairs. For additional information, please call 770-740-2648.

Alpharetta Garden Club - Our Club meets the 4th Tuesday, September- May, at 9:30 am. at the Mansell House, 1835 Old Milton Pkwy. in Alpharetta. All are welcome. Contact: Joy Ross 770-442-9960.

Alpharetta Branch of Public Library - Help label and shelve books and other forms of general support. 770-740-2425.

Alpharetta Public Art Committee - Get involved in promoting all types of art in public places. 770-442-0998.

Alpharetta Woman's Club - A variety of civic and volunteer activities to support the community. Membership is open to all women. Contact: Marjean Birt 770-475-7428

Autry Mill Preserve and Heritage Center - Trail maintenance, grounds work, planting, exhibits, museum, other activities. 770-664-0660.

Friends of the Alpharetta Library is a non-profit group of volunteers whose purpose is to support the library. Volunteers are welcome to assist at monthly book sales, help on committees, or assist with library projects. Volunteers may give as little or as much time as they are able. For information, contact the Alpharetta Branch Library, 238 Canton St., 770-740-2425. A member of the Friends will respond to inquiries.

Homestretch - Help answer phones, raise funds and rehabilitate houses for the homeless. 770-642-9185.

Hospice Advantage - We are seeking volunteers to provide patients with companionship - reading, writing letters, playing music or just sitting quietly. Call 770-218-1997 to volunteer.

North Fulton Community Charities - Help in the Clothes Closet, Food Pantry and other special projects. 770-640-0399.

North Fulton Senior Services - Help provide meals-on-wheels, transportation, administrative support and program support for activities designed for seniors. 770-993-1906.

North Fulton Thanksgiving/Christmas Program - Pack, sort and distribute food and other gifts for the needy. 770-998-3934.

United Way in North Fulton - volunteer opportunities to serve on the annual fundraising campaign committee for north Fulton or the special events committee. Additional opportunities are available with local non-profit organizations funded by United Way.
