Public Information brings all the public relations responsibilities in house. Recognizing the public benefit of good internal and external communications led to the establishment of the Public Information Department in late 2002. Building great communications and public relationships have long been a principle of successful private sector businesses. As a ‘City of Excellence”, Alpharetta has adopted this principle as valid and critical for the local government as well.
OUR MISSION:
The mission of the Public Information Department is to promote awareness and understanding of City services, policies, information, programs, and priorities to its citizens, business partners and other interested populations. This year, the Department drafted a Short Term Action Plan that was adopted by Mayor and Council. Initiatives in the plan included a direct mail resident newsletter, improved media relations, and web site improvements. There are four goals that the Public Information Department will focus on for the upcoming year: developing a long range Communications and Public Relations Plan for the City, to increase available communication conduits between the public and the government, to increase public and government interaction through technology including the City’s web site and finally to increase accurate media coverage.
