Overnight Paving Of State Route 9 Begins May 30

Released May 23, 2023 02:37 PM
The State Route 9 Improvement Project will enter its next phase on May 30 as contractors working for the Georgia Department of Transportation begin paving the section of the highway between Upper Hembree Road and Old Milton Parkway.  To minimize impacts to motorists, the work will be performed in the overnight hours of each day between 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM.

A targeted completion date for this phase of paving has not yet been provided.  Motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid the affected area of State Route 9 in the evenings beginning next week, as heavy travel delays will occur while paving crews are present.

Those who have traveled the southern section of State Route 9 through Alpharetta in recent months have likely noticed that the new curbs and gutters installed as part of the State Route 9 Improvement Project are considerably higher than the existing road in some locations.  This was done in anticipation of raising the road in those areas to address ponding during rain events and other issues.  Motorists will see those changes as this paving work begins.

According to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), the section of the State Route 9 Improvement Project between Upper Hembree Road and Windward Parkway is nearly 40% complete.  Their current projection is for construction to be substantially complete by the end of June 2024, but weather and supply chain issues could impact that date.

GDOT divides the project into two sections, so you can always find the latest information on the State Route 9 Project by using the following links to view the project pages on GDOT’s website:
