Business Licenses Renewals
 We appreciate your choosing to do business in the City of Alpharetta. To maintain your active business status, all persons, partnerships, corporations, or other entities located or engaged in business in the City of Alpharetta must renew their Business Occupation Tax annually by  FEBRUARY 15TH. No penalties will be waived for late filing of the renewal by a business. The renewal application may be completed by the owner or an authorized agent, but all the information must be complete and accurate before a license is issued.

Important Notice: All outstanding business occupation taxes and fees from prior years must be paid in full before your current license renewal can be processed. 

STEP 1: Complete the Renewal Application


• Online: Renew your business license online at Business Occupation Tax Renewal Application - Formstack. Use the pre-filled information on the application to complete the online form. Make changes and upload any documents, if applicable.

• Mail: Prefer a paper application? Complete and mail the application to City of Alpharetta, Attn: Finance Department – BL Renewals, 2 Park Plaza, Alpharetta GA, 30009.

STEP 2: Remit Payment


Online: Proceed to the online payment portal https://mss.alpharetta.ga.us/mss/citizens/BusinessLicenses/Default.aspx
Visa, MasterCard, and AMEX are accepted.

Mail: Send a check or money order along with your completed application to: City of Alpharetta, Attn: Finance Department – BL Renewals, 2 Park Plaza, Alpharetta GA, 30009.

STEP 3: Download Your Renewed License


Online: Upon submission of your application and payment, please allow 48 business hours for the business license to become available for download.

Mail: If you mailed your application and payment, please allow 2-4 weeks for the license to become available for download.

STEP 4: Print and Display License


Ensure that the renewed business license is prominently displayed at your business location in compliance with the City of Alpharetta’s requirements.


Business license renewals are issued on a calendar year basis and expire on December 31 of each year.   Renewals not completed on or before April 1st will be subject to a 10% penalty and interest will accrue at a rate of 1.5% per month until the full amount is paid. Renewal applications submitted after June 1st are not eligible for renewal, and a new application will be required.

What is the deadline for renewing my business license?

The deadline for renewing your business license is February 15th each year. Failure to renew by this date may result in the imposition of late fees.

What happens if I miss the renewal deadline?

If the renewal fee is not paid by April 1st, a 10% penalty will be added to the total amount due, and interest will accrue at a rate of 1.5% per month until the full amount is paid.

Can I renew my business license if I have outstanding taxes, fees, or penalties?

Any outstanding fees or penalties must be resolved prior to the renewal of your business license.

How long does it take to process a renewal application?

Online: If you completed your application and payment online and no additional information is required, your business license certificate will be available for download in 1-2 business days after the payment has processed.

Mail: If you mailed your application and payment, your business license certificate will be available for download 2-4 weeks after payment processing.

 

Do I need to renew my business license if I do not have any employee?

Yes, any business operating in the City of Alpharetta is required to maintain an active business license.

 

Do I need to renew my business license if I have made changes to my business?

Yes, if you have made any changes to your business, such as a change in ownership or location, you must update your business license information and may need to reapply.  Please email newbusinesslicenses@alpharetta.ga.us.

What are the consequences of doing business without a license?

Businesses without a current business license are prohibited from engaging in any business activities within Alpharetta city limits.  Any person, their manager, agent, or employee, who does business in the city after the certificate for such business has been revoked shall be subject to the penalties as provided in Section 42-78 of the City Ordinance.
