Trash & Recycling Services Delayed

Released September 09, 2019 08:57 AM
UPDATE 09/10/2019:   Republic Services has resumed residential trash and recycling service in Alpharetta.  Service will be provided on a “holiday schedule” for the remainder of the week.  This means residents will receive service 1 day after their normally scheduled service day.

On Monday, September 9 the City was advised by Republic Services that our residents may experience a one-day delay in the provision of trash and recycling services this week.  The delay is the result of a work stoppage related to an ongoing labor dispute between Republic Services and their employees.

For now, Alpharetta residents are advised to place their waste and recycling carts at curbside by 7:00 AM on their normally scheduled service day.  If service is not provided on that day, please leave your carts at curbside overnight for service the following day.

On August 10 drivers, helpers, mechanics, and dispatchers in Republic Services’ operations in Metro Atlanta voted to authorize a strike in an ongoing dispute between labor and management.  Until today, the company’s management had been successful in continuing the negotiations without a work stoppage occurring.  While those negotiations continue, workers represented by Teamsters Local 728 are threatening to move forward with a work stoppage sometime today.

Republic Services has advised the City of Alpharetta this morning that both sides in the dispute remain at the negotiating table; making the situation extremely fluid.  Company management will be providing updates to the City as they become available, and we will provide that information to our residents as it is received.
