Road Closure To Impact Waters Road October 14th

Released October 05, 2020 04:51 PM

Waters Road will be closed to all thru traffic on Wednesday, October 14 between the hours of 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM.  This closure is necessary as crews install a prefabricated pedestrian bridge over Long Indian Creek.

During the installation, a large crane will be used to lower the prefabricated bridge into place and maintain it while crews complete the installation.  The crane will block all lanes of the road.

Residents of neighborhoods along Waters Road will be able to access their homes throughout the closure period; however, there will be no ability to cross the bridge.  Residents of neighborhoods located north of Long Indian Creek will need to access Waters Road from Kimball Bridge Road.  Residents of neighborhoods located south of the creek will need to access Waters Road from Jones Bridge Road.

A detour will be established for non-local traffic using Kimball Bridge Road, Buice Road, and Jones Bridge Road.

The City is very much aware that Fulton County Schools plans to return to a regular schedule of face-to-face school on October 14.  Unfortunately, the bridge replacement was scheduled well before Fulton County Schools made their decision, and we cannot reschedule the bridge work.  This is because the fabrication and delivery of the bridge is scheduled around a delivery and installation date and cannot be changed once the fabrication begins.

We have been in close contact with Fulton County Schools with respect to the planned road closure, and the school system has developed bus routing plans to minimize impacts to student scheduling and time spent on buses.
