Qualifying To Run For Mayor / City Council Begins August 21

Alpharetta residents who are interested in competing to hold the office of Mayor or one of three City Council seats will have three days within which to file their qualifying papers.  The City of Alpharetta has set August 21, 22, and 23 as the qualifying dates for the upcoming election.  Those wishing to run for one of the four elected offices must file their notice of candidacy in the Office of the City Clerk between 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM on one of those days.

All candidates for Mayor shall pay a qualifying fee of $900 and candidates for City Council shall pay a qualifying fee of $450.

Those wishing to run for one of the seats on City Council must specify for which Council Post they intend to compete.  Council Posts 4, 5, and 6 will be on this year’s ballot along with the office of Mayor.

Per the City of Alpharetta’s Charter, in order to qualify for office, a person shall have been a resident of the city for 6 months prior to the date of election; shall have attained the age of twenty-one years prior to the date of election; shall continue to reside in the city during that member's period of service; and shall be registered and qualified to vote in Alpharetta municipal elections.
