Composting Workshop

Released September 11, 2018 04:12 PM

The City of Alpharetta and the Alpharetta Natural Resources Commission will be offering a free class about composting on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm.  The class will be at the Alpharetta Public Works Department, 1790 Hembree Road, Alpharetta, GA 30009.

Our UGA Cooperative Extension North Fulton Master Gardeners will conduct the class and give you all the information you need to begin making your own compost. This is a hands-on workshop.  The material will benefit home gardeners, community gardens, school gardeners and anyone who wants to learn more about this topic.

The word “compost” means “to put together”.  When we compost, we combine food scraps, yard waste, newspaper, and other materials, and we allow them to decompose into nutrients that enrich the soil.  Gardeners call compost “black gold” because it is so rich in nutrients.  This earth-friendly activity can improve the quality of your garden soil and helps to protect the quality of the water in our streams and lakes.  It’s also a fun, easy, and inexpensive activity that your whole family can enjoy doing together.

Please register for this class on Eventbrite at https://tinyurl.com/ydeopt8q or by calling (678) 297-6200.  For more information, please contact Terry Porter at (678) 297-6200 or tporter@alpharetta.ga.us
