Update On The State Route 9 Improvement Project

As work continues on the Georgia Department of Transportation’s project to improve State Route 9 through Alpharetta, many residents may be wondering when all of those orange barrels and construction crews will no longer be a common sight along the corridor.  The short answer is that it is going to be a while.

According to GDOT, the project is 33.25% complete as of February 1.  Current activities are focused on the relocation of utility lines and construction of sidewalks and barrier walls, which is expected to continue for several more months.

GDOT’s current projection is for construction to be substantially complete by the end of June 2024, but weather and supply chain issues could impact that date.  January, alone, saw 18 rain days that kept construction crews on the sidelines, and shortages and delivery issues for critical materials like concrete and asphalt continue to challenge GDOT and other transportation agencies across the nation.
