Do you enjoy performing theater and want to improve your skills? Or maybe you have an interest in community theater acting and would like to learn more? ACT1 Theater has partnered with Alpharetta Recreation, Parks and Cultural Services to offer a series of performing art classes for adults this spring and summer, culminating with an outdoor performance at Brooke Street Park. Each class runs for six-weeks at the Alpharetta Presbyterian Church, 180 Academy Street, and costs $75 for residents, $112.50 for non-residents.
Improv or Improvisation – Dive into physical comedy and improv, a form of theater in which the plot and characters are made up in the moment. Taught by Kit FitzSimons. Meets Mondays, 7pm-9pm, April 2 – May 7. Outdoor park performance on May 12 from 7pm-9pm.
Shakespeare – Educate regarding classical theater, stage combat and how to convey Shakespearean characters. Taught by Chris Jones. Meets Wednesdays, 7pm-9pm, May 9 – June 13. Outdoor park performance on June 30 from 7pm-9pm.
Acting Fundamentals – Build a solid foundation with exposure to basic acting, theater terminology, stage technique and interacting with others. Taught by Carlye McLaughlin. Meets Mondays, 7pm-9pm, June 4 – July 9. Outdoor park performance on July 14 from 7pm-9pm.
Character Development – Further understanding of personal, solo acting and the process of creating a believable stage character. Taught by Shannon Kraiger. Meets Wednesdays, 7pm-9pm, July 11 – August 8, and Friday August 10. Outdoor park performance on August 11 from 7pm-9pm.
Musical Theater – Focus on integrating voice, dance and acting to convey characters. Taught by Regan Kays Phelps. Meets Mondays, 7pm-9pm, July 23 – August 27. Outdoor park performance on September 8 from 7pm-9pm.
