Like many employers, Republic Services (our curbside residential waste services provider) is dealing with staffing challenges as employees are forced to isolate or quarantine due to having or being directly exposed to COVID-19. It is a challenge facing the trash/recycling industry in nearly every community across the country. Here, in Alpharetta, the company has had to shift route personnel or bring in personnel from other accounts/communities in response.
In doing this, Republic prioritizes services as follows:
1. Trash and garbage
2. Standard recycling
3. Glass recycling
To ensure that trash/garbage and standard recycling service is being completed on assigned days, Republic has had to move employees from glass recycling routes, which are currently running one to two weeks behind schedule, as a result. The hours for provision of trash/garbage and standard recycling routes to be completed each day have also been temporarily extended later into the day/evening.
Republic Services is working to better address this temporary situation through scheduling and hiring additional workers. In the meantime, Republic Services and the City apologize for the inconvenience, and we appreciate your patience.
