Demolition Has Begun Of Bridge Over GA400 On Kimball Bridge Road

Released May 31, 2023 12:26 PM

Contractors working for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) have begun the demolition of the bridge over GA400 on Kimball Bridge Road.  Active demolition began overnight on May 30 and is anticipated to take approximately four to six weeks to complete.

Residents living near the bridge area are reminded that GDOT has authorized their contractor to work at night to speed the completion of the bridge replacement project and the reopening of Kimball Bridge Road.  As a result, there will be evenings during which construction noise may be experienced.

As part of its GA400 Express Lanes Project, GDOT is replacing the current bridge over the highway on Kimball Bridge Road.  When completed, the new bridge will allow for the new lanes being constructed on GA400 as part of the express lanes project.  For those traveling on Kimball Bridge Road, the new bridge will provide two vehicular travel lanes in each direction, a center median, wide sidewalks on both sides, improved lighting, and decorative elements.

According to GDOT and their contractor, CW Matthews, demolition of the existing bridge and construction of the new one will take 365 days to complete.
