$13 Million Webb Bridge Road Construction Contract Awarded

Released February 06, 2024 12:19 PM
The City of Alpharetta has awarded a $13.7 million contract for construction of the next section of its Webb Bridge Road Improvement Project.  The contract, awarded February 5 to OhmShiv Construction, will result in a series of improvements to the 1.6-mile span of Webb Bridge Road from the Big Creek Greenway east to the intersection with Maid Marion Close.

It is anticipated that construction of this section of the project will take approximately 22 months to complete.  Installation of landscaping along the segment will begin after road construction is completed.

Construction is currently underway on two additional sections of the Webb Bridge Road Improvement Project, the replacement of the bridge over Big Creek and the construction of a roundabout and related improvements at the intersection with Webb Bridge Way.

The Webb Bridge Road Improvement Project is a project designed to advance Webb Bridge Road’s role as a residential collector corridor through a design that reduces vehicular speeds and elevates operational safety while also providing enhanced pedestrian, bicycle, and landscape amenities.  It will narrow the width of the travel lanes on Webb Bridge Road to 10.5 feet, which will allow for a reduction in the speed limit and allow for the addition of multi-use paths, bike lanes, landscaped medians, pedestrian lighting, and other amenities.

When fully completed, the Webb Bridge Road Improvement Project will span the length of Webb Bridge Road from Morris Road east to Webb Bridge Way.  The design and construction is divided into five segments:

     • Phase 1: Extending the Culvert/Tunnel and access to Big Creek Greenway from Webb Bridge Road

     • Phase 2: Webb Bridge Park to Maid Marion Close including a roundabout at Webb Bridge Way

     • Phase 3: Maid Marion Way to the Big Creek Greenway

     • Phase 4: Big Creek Greenway to North Point Parkway

     • Phase 5: North Point Parkway to Morris Road

Phases 2 and 4 are currently under construction, and Phase 1 has been completed.

Work on the Webb Bridge Road Improvement Project began in 2106 with a series of public input sessions and design charettes that provided Alpharetta residents, especially those living in neighborhoods along Webb Bridge Road, the opportunity to guide the creation of the initial road and streetscape designs.  The project is funded through the county-wide Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST) that was approved by voters in 2016 and renewed by a 2022 ballot initiative.
