The City of Alpharetta holds non-partisan municipal elections in odd numbered years. On November 7, 2023, a general election will be held in the City of Alpharetta, Georgia to elect the Mayor and three (3) Members of the City Council (Posts 4, 5, and 6).
Any Alpharetta residents, who wish to qualify as a candidate for Mayor or City Council in the November 7, 2023 general election, shall file a notice of candidacy with the City Clerk’s Office at Alpharetta City Hall, which is located at 2 Park Plaza, Alpharetta, Georgia 30005.
The election qualification dates and times are as follows:
Monday, August 21, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Tuesday, August 22, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Wednesday, August 23, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The qualification fee for Mayor is $900, and the qualification fee for City Council Member is $450. For more details on qualifying, please review the 2023 City Council Candidate Qualifying Packet.
Per the City of Alpharetta’s Charter, in order to qualify for office, a person shall have been a resident of the city for six (6) months prior to the date of election; shall have attained the age of twenty-one (21) years prior to the date of election; shall continue to reside in the city during that member's period of service; and shall be registered and qualified to vote in municipal elections of this city.
All council member positions shall be designated by posts numbered one (1) through six (6); however, all Council Seats are at-large positions. All candidates for election to council member positions shall designate, at the time of qualifying, the post to which they are seeking election.
Mayor and Council Members are compensated as follows:
* Mayor: $30,000.00 per annum, payable monthly.
* Council: $15,000.00 per annum, payable monthly.
The Mayor and Council Members shall be reimbursed for their actual and necessary expenses incurred in the performance of their official duties
